Welcome to Valley Taekwon-Do Academy.
We teach authentic ITF Taekwon-Do to men, women & children of all abilities.
Taekwon-Do is a Korean Martial Art, comprising of hand and foot techniques.
Valley Taekwon-Do Academy was established in 2014 and is one of the fastest growing Taekwon-Do schools in the South Wales Valleys, running successful schools in Bargoed, Rhymney and Tredegar. The Academy is lead by Principle Instructor Lee Meyrick. It consists of 3 schools with 2 DBS registered instructors and over 100 students.
Valley Taekwon-do Academy students have had many successes over the past few years and have always brought back a haul of medals and trophies from all tournaments attended, many of our students have become National Champions and we even have pupils training in the National Welsh squad, competing at international level throughout Europe. We even offer displays at any kind of event such as school fayres, free of charge; showing the traditional side of Taekwon-Do, self defence skills, sparring and the art of wood breaking. We strive to include any student who wishes to participate, regardless of age or belt status.
We are a family friendly school and cater for each individual student to ensure they achieve their overall goal, offering classes to children and adults of all ages and abilities starting for children from the age of four. We also provide a separate class for children and adults with disabilities. Taekwon-Do can enhance self-esteem by heightening your physical and mental powers. Build Confidence by encouraging you to succeed and to take control of your life. Develop discipline by thoroughly training your body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Taekwon-Do.

Valley Taekwon-Do Academy are members of the following national and world governing bodies:
The International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) was founded on March 22nd 1966 by General Choi Hong Hi, IX Degree to promote and encourage the growth of genuine Taekwon-Do.
The ITF is the official world body for the development of authentic Taekwon-Do technique & philosophy. It also provided grade certification and recognition for schools of genuine Taekwon-Do ITF host the International, Continental & World Taekwon-Do Championships.
The British Taekwon-Do Council (BTC) is comprised of many National Taekwon-Do organisations, and is the only governing body for Taekwon-Do in the UK recognised by the Sports Council (UK Sport) and British Government. Member groups must adhere to a strict code of conduct and best practice for instruction, health & saftey and safeguarding of young and vunerable persons - as laid down by UK Sport. The BTC provides Instructor professional liability insurance, student to student liability insurance and instructor criminal records bureau (CRB) checks.
We are affiliated to the BTC through our national governing body, the British Taekwon-Do Federation (BTF) who have full member status.
The British Taekwon-Do Federation (BTF) is a UK based National Governing Body (NGB) recognised by the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and the British Taekwon-Do Council (BTC). It is the responsibility to a NGB to grant authorisation for Black Belt member to test for promotion to their next Dan (Black Belt degree) attend ITF international courses and seminars and to represent their country at international competition.
